Nature abounds with priceless gifts. But because of our distance from the village, we know less and less.
In the home library on the 3rd floor of Villa Topi, you will find the book “Nature from 1987”. In it you can recognize the different grasses that we encounter. And if you take a nature walk in the region, you can collect and dry yourself for tea.
Every season abounds with useful and medicinal grasses and herbs.
In early spring, we can make dandelion oil. Egg yolks not only smile against the background of young, juicy green grass, but they also have a very positive effect on the body when consumed.
What is dandelion oil good for?
I have been making my own dandelion oil extract for several years. It turns out to be extremely beneficial for muscle and joint pain.
How to make your own dandelion oil at home?
- We find a meadow with blooming dandelions. It is important that it is away from the city and especially from a street with car traffic. The goal is that the flowers have preserved their properties as much as possible. If you take a walk along the river behind Villa Topi, you’re sure to find an abundance of goldenrod deposits.
- We collect only well-bloomed dandelions. In the morning, before the sun is hot. This is important because with warming, herbs release some of their usefulness.
- Place the dandelions in a dry glass container, filling it very nicely with the flowers. It is extremely important that the flowers do not get wet and that the container is dry so that there is no contact of the fat with water.
- Top up with high-quality oil or cold-pressed olive oil.
- Close the jar tightly and leave it in a sunny place for about 3 weeks.
- Strain the vegetable oil through gauze and store it in a cool and dark place, again in a closed glass container.
- The flowers darken from their stay in the fat. We also store them in a glass jar.
When and how do we use dandelion oil?
We use the medicinal extract of dandelion and vegetable oil prepared in this way for direct consumption. We use the flowers as an addition to the salad. And olive oil for flavoring. They not only enrich the vegetables, but also make a much tastier salad.
If you have joint problems, you can rub the oil several times a day (at least 3 times) externally. After about a week, you should feel an improvement. As with any other herb, they should not be overdone. And dandelions should be consumed in moderation. We make several small jars each spring. This is enough to recharge and cleanse our body.
You can also dry a dandelion flower and add a mixture of home herbs to your teas in the winter.
