If you have set aside a whole day to travel and get to know Bulgaria and you have followed our suggestion for the Bachkovo Monastery. We advise you to go another 20 km. It will take you another 20 minutes to climb to the village of Kosovo. It is literally hidden between the peaks of the Rhodopes. The road to the village is nice. It is easily reached by car. Leave the cars in the designated place and go for a walk.
We advise you to recharge your batteries first at the Hadjiiska kashta restaurant
We purposefully set out for the village of Kosovo, because we found out that the Hadjiiska Kashta restaurant was awarded the “Restaurant Guro” award for 2023. Another thing that impressed us in advance and we wanted to check it out on the spot is the skillful combination of typical Rhodope specialties such as patatnik, kachamak, parsnip cream soup… with the new trends for keto nutrition. Here you can enjoy keto bread, keto brownies and other gluten-free and carb-free delicacies. In fact, everything is so delicious that at some point we decided to indulge in the moment and indulge our senses.
Arriving at the “Hadji’s House” place, which also offers overnight accommodation, we are greeted by an old sign. From it we understand that the house was built in 1853. It was renovated in 2005. and receives guests again. We push the heavy wooden gate with the huge iron key and find ourselves in a beautiful, terraced and well-maintained place. Literally perched on top of one of the hills on which the village of Kosovo spreads. No matter which way you look, there are breathtaking views. Gradually, while enjoying everything around us – the nature, the environment and the food, we understand that the restaurant “Hadjiska kashta” is run by a brother and sister.
The man is the chef and remains hidden from visitors, but his ideas for eating are unique. The woman welcomed us and took care of us with kindness and calmness. From her we found out that everything they offer is what they grow themselves or can find in the region around them. Admirations for these two young people! We wish them well and welcome many more people to their magical and recharging place.
We didn’t have room for dessert, but decided to try one of the mystery offerings they offered us, such as “bread pudding.” Well, we have never tasted anything so delicious, measured and balanced, full of fruit and garnished with mulberries…. that we ordered to take home 😊
The atmosphere in the restaurant “Pilgrim’s House” is actually the first thing that grabs us. Here, too, past and present can be felt in a wonderful and complementary combination. We found ourselves in a new, clean, cozy and modern environment in an authentic Bulgarian style. Huge carved ceilings, wooden floor, colorful woven cushions for the comfortable pads, small pitchers with flowers on linen frames, sewn with lace make you smile. Blooming geraniums peek out for sunshine from behind the white curtains of the wooden windows… Simply gorgeous!
Art Shop “Rakijinitsa”
In one corner of the “Hadjiiska kashta” restaurant, there is a corner designed for wonderful handmade products. All of them are the work of artists from the village itself – Kosovski houses complex. And in the village there are only 25 people?!
From here you can buy designer jewelry, miniature paintings, knitted hats, slippers, slippers, bags. There were also painted sneakers, ceramic cups with embroidery, homemade jam, honey with a beehive… To be honest, there were so many wonderful things that we couldn’t stop at one thing.
A walk through the village of Kosovo
After you’ve had a good meal at the “Hadjiska kashta” restaurant, you can use up the energy from the meal by going for a leisurely walk through the cobbled streets of the village of Kosovo. There is definitely a lot to see.
Bulgaria is a wonderful country! Whenever you can take advantage to visit new places and experience it in a different way.
