If you are one of those people who like to make the most of every opportunity, then we highly recommend that you combine your stay with us with a walk to the village of Kosovo.
What to expect in Kosovo Village?
You can add the village as part of a day trip to Plovdiv and/or Bachkovo Monastery. Or purposefully head to the village of Kosovo. It is located 75 km from Villa Topi. It will take you about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there. The village of Kosovo has 25 permanent residents. Can you imagine? It looks like a cultural reserve. It is actually designated as such. All the guest houses in the village are united in the “Kosovo Houses” complex. You can stay in guest houses and enjoy delicious Rhodope cuisine. Although it is located almost at the top of the mountain, the road to the village of Kosovo is nice. You can safely go up to the megdan, where it is recommended to leave your cars.
Don’t miss the restaurant “Hadzhiiska Kashta”
We first decided to support ourselves and headed directly to the restaurant “Hadzhiiska kashta”. We presented ourselves very qualitatively by trying the various Rhodope specialties. 😊 Therefore, the walk was absolutely mandatory after that.
A walk through the village of Kosovo
You can walk along the various streets that wind up and down. Everywhere you come across courtyards with low gates and blooming spring flowers to admire. Hills and an endless blue sky lurk between the houses. In the village you come across as many new and restored houses as there are old, abandoned and crumbling houses. But they all have their own charm. Some hold the promise of the future, while others hold memories and history from our past.
The village was in its heyday at the end of the 19th century. While walking around the village, you will come across an elementary school from 1882. Opposite it is a small square with another place to eat, which awaits its visitors. It has an enticing name: Carefree Life Tavern. There is also the old church, the ethnographic museum… In general, sights are lurking everywhere. Not to be overlooked is the fact that there is also a stone fountain with delicious cold water, which you will need at some point. And there is also an accessible toilet.
In general, what can we say, Bulgaria is a wonderful country. It’s good to know each other’s history! And let’s keep it.
This one-day excursion trip can be combined very well with a visit to the Bachkovo Monastery. And when you get back to Villa Topi, you can exchange opinions, photos and feelings from the day.
